Compare, migrate & restore
Every version row offers three actions: Compare, Restore, and Open as new.
Compare
Compare shows the diff between a saved version and your current diagram:
- Tables — added, modified, and removed, with column-level changes inside modified tables.
- Relationships — added and removed.
- Migration script — generated in your SQL dialect, ready to copy, so you can move a real database between the two states.
The diff is computed in your browser — nothing is sent to the server to produce it.
:::info Four SQL dialects The generated migration script supports all four supported SQL dialects, so it matches the database you actually run. :::
Restore
Restore reverts the diagram to the selected version. It's a normal edit, so it's undoable — if you restore by accident, just undo.
Open as new
Open as new forks the version into a brand-new diagram, leaving the original untouched. Use this to branch off an old state for experimentation without disturbing the live diagram.
| Action | Effect on the original diagram |
|---|---|
| Compare | None — read-only diff. |
| Restore | Reverts it to the version (undoable). |
| Open as new | None — creates a separate diagram. |
Run Compare before a Restore to see exactly what will change — and grab the migration script if you need to bring a real database along.
