Import JSON
EntityFlow's JSON format is its own native, lossless representation of a diagram. Importing JSON is how you restore an exported diagram exactly as it was — layout, colours and all.
How to import
- Open File → Import JSON….
- Choose a file that was produced by Export → JSON.
- EntityFlow rebuilds the diagram in full.
:::warning Import replaces the current diagram Importing JSON discards what's on the canvas and replaces it with the file's contents. :::
What gets restored
Unlike DBML or SQL — which only describe the database — JSON describes the diagram, so the round-trip is complete:
| Restored | Notes |
|---|---|
| Tables & fields | Names, types, constraints |
| Relationships | Foreign keys and cardinality |
| Colours | Per-table palette and theming |
| Positions | Exact node layout on the canvas |
| Container groups | Group boxes and membership |
| Notes | Sticky notes and their text |
| Custom types | Enums and reusable types |
:::tip Try it with the sample Download the Acme Storefront sample and import it to see a finished diagram — 6 tables across the Catalog and Sales & Fulfilment groups — in seconds. :::
Because it's lossless and self-contained, JSON is also the basis for backups and for sharing a starter schema with teammates.
