Import from a query

Sometimes you can't open a direct connection to your database — it's behind a bastion, locked down, or air-gapped. Import from query lets you introspect the schema on your own terms and bring the result into EntityFlow without sharing any credentials.

How it works

  1. In the New diagram wizard, choose Import from query.
  2. Select your database engine. EntityFlow gives you a dialect-specific introspection query.
  3. Run that query in your own SQL client — the one you already trust and that already has access.
  4. Copy the JSON result it returns and paste it back into the wizard.
  5. EntityFlow parses the result and builds the diagram.

Why use it

:::tip No credentials leave your machine You run the query yourself with your existing access, so EntityFlow never sees your host, user or password. This is the safest path for production, regulated or air-gapped databases. :::

  • Works when connecting directly isn't possible or allowed.
  • Keeps database access entirely on your side.
  • Produces the same kind of diagram as a live connection — tables, fields, types and relationships.
note

Because there's no stored connection, an imported-from-query diagram can't be synced later. If you need ongoing sync, connect to the database directly and remember the connection.
